This course provides a comprehensive overview of insurance law. It examines how insurance law is regulated and explores various types of insurance. The nature of insurance, risk, insurable interests, persons insured, and procedures for filing claims are considered. The insurer defenses and its duty to defend are covered, as well as waiver and estoppel, the measure of recovery, and subrogation. This course also examines ethical and legal issues arising from insurance transactions, including fraud, bad faith causes of action, reinsurance, and bonds. Finally the course assesses trends in insurance law and looks to its future.
