Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth examination of addictions, including substance use disorders and process addictions dynamics. You will use your knowledge of counseling theories common to addiction, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, to evaluate case studies, diagnose addictive disorders, and propose appropriate treatments. Ethical dilemmas in the counselor/client relationship will be analyzed and discussed. Additionally, you will critique case studies that contain ethical, legal, and sociocultural issues using the code of ethics for addiction counseling.
