Catalog description

In this course, you will - under the close supervision of the instructor - work with record materials from actual criminal cases to develop and execute legal defense strategies at the trial and/or appellate levels. You will perform tasks that a summer associate in a law firm might perform. Depending on the needs of the assigned case(s), tasks may include summarizing a trial transcript; preparing first drafts of briefs; suggesting edits to instructor-drafted briefs; brainstorming legal issues; and/or participating in preparations for oral arguments. Given the nature of the class, you must be available to attend live, video conferences with the instructor and/or with other class participants, generally at least once a week.
