P: BUS 20100 and BUS 20200 with grades of C- or better, and sophomore or higher class standing. This course introduces the concepts and technologies underlying the design, development, implementation, and use of accounting information systems (AIS). Students will explore the structure of AIS, their role in various business cycles, and their significance in supporting organizational decision-making and performance improvement. The course emphasizes hands-on skills in designing and querying accounting information systems, as well as understanding the impact of data analytics and emerging technologies on accounting practices. Topics covered include business process modeling, revenue and expenditure cycles, information systems architecture, systems analysis and design, internal controls, EDP controls, and the use of software tools for data cleaning and visualization.
