Catalog description
Pre-requisite: TMED 4041. Readings on pre -transfusion testing, clinical conditions associated with Immunohematology, possible complications of transfusion and the practical aspects of transfusion medicine are discussed. Students are introduced to the ethical and legal responsibilit ies of the blood bank technologist. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of students’ skills for interpreting results, problem solving and decision-making. Laboratory sessions provide students the opportunity to practice routine pre-transfusion testing procedures. TMED 4065 - Clinical Practice in Immunohematology. One (1) credit. The students will practice in a laboratory setting with patient’s samples applying principles of clinical laboratory science to perform, analyze and report analytical procedures. Emphasis will be given to experience with modern automated instrumentation, working within a Total Quality Assurance Program and use of a Laboratory Information System.
