Pathophysiology I

Catalog description

Pre-requisites: TEFI 7045. This course provides an introduction to the pathophysiological mechanisms associated with disease and trauma across the lifespan, caused by inflammation, infection, and genetic disorders, among others. The etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, clinical manifestations, associated comorbidities, systemic involvement, and medical management are discussed. It addresses the diseases and disorders of the circulatory, respiratory, hematologic, endocrine, digestive, genitourinary, reproducti ve, immunologic, and integumentary systems most frequently encountered in the practice of physical therapy. Students are expected to apply concepts of pathophysiology and clinical correlations associated with the physical therapy practice. Lectures and case discussions are used as teaching strategies.
