Laws and Regulations Applied to Occupational Safety

In this course the fundamental concepts of occupational safety laws, standards, and regulations, as well as important aspects leading to the prevention of incidents and accidents are studied. The code of federal register 29 (cfr) and international standard s such as those published by the international standards organizations (iso) are used as base to establish/assess compliance towards protecting workers against occupational risk factors. Moreover, class discussions are directed towards the role of the envi ronmental health and safety specialist pertaining the development and application of laws and regulation and control of chemical, physical, and biological hazards in the workplace. Finally, case studies are used to evaluate laws, regulations, and standards , as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of social media technologies as surveillance and audit tools.
