Environmental Chemistry

Catalog description

The course reviews the physical and chemical processes that affect the transport and fate of pollutants in the environment. The sources, distribution, and transformations of these contaminants will be discussed, as well as the main chemical reactions invol ved in these processes. Specific examples from the literature and from current environmental issues in Puerto Rico will be included in the discussions. Additionally, mathematical problems will be used in order to quantitatively analyze these processes. At the end of the course, the students will be able to apply and integrate the concepts learned on environmental chemistry in the search of solutions to environmental and human health problems.
