Swallowing Disorders in Children and Adults

Pre-requisites: PHAL 6105. Study of the etiology, characteristics, assessment, intervention and clinical management of feeding and swallowing problems in children and adults. The course addresses normal and abnormal swallow physiology, including pediatric feeding disorders. The course will cover both clinical management and instrumental assessment techniques to evaluate swallowing function using validated screens and assessme nt tools appropriate for varied cultural groups. Interdisciplinary and interprofessional approaches to the assessment and treatment will also be discussed. This is a hybrid course. PHAL 6117 - Intervention Strategies in Speech Language Pathology. One (1) credit. This course is an overview of planning, implementing and evaluating on intervention in speech language pathology. The students will learn how to plan the intervention with measurable and achievable goals that meet the client's needs.
