Maternal and Child Concepts and Strategies

Catalog description

This is a basic MCH course, designed to analyze the determinant factors and particular problems which may affect the health of the mother and child during its growth and development. For each problem discussed, the etiology, risk manifestations, precipitant factors, and a plan of action for prevention and management are analy zed. The student will develop appropriate criteria to identify needs to be satisfied in order to promote optimum health status of the MCH population. The course deals with the application of the technical tools of health planning needs for the development and organization of MCH programs. The student will carry out an assessment of the maternal and child health of a specific region or community. Priorities will be ranked and recommendations will be issued for the improvement and organization of maternal and child health. MANI 6055 - Legislation in Maternal and Child Health. One (1) credit. This course offered the student the opportunity to become acquainted with the trends and process by which the MCH programs have developed in the United States and Puerto Rico.
