This online course with a public health perspective focuses on improving the quality of life of the elderly. The course covers the biology of aging and the physiological changes at the cellular and systemic level that occur during the aging process. Throug h synchronous interactive lectures and group discussions, students are provided with a biological framework to address the physical, social, and psychological needs of older adults. In addition, the main causes of disability in the elderly produced by the synergy of the aging process, health conditions and the environment are addressed. The main goal is to propose public health intervention strategies to delay disability and to understand morbidity, which have social costs. At the end of the course, students will know the principles of public health that can help attenuate the effects of aging and its relationship with disability.
