Catalog description

Pre-requisites: FISA 8105, FISA 8215. This course offers essential information of spinal cord circuits, neural development and plasticity, integrating basic concepts, theories and research strategies from different disciplines like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Cell & Molecular Biology. Through lectures and group discussions of specific topics recently published in scientific journals the student will analyze neural development and behavior of the nervous system from a biochemical, and cellular and molecular standpoint. In this way, the student may understand the basic molecular, cellular and physiological concepts of the central nervous system in relationship with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer, Parkinson, epilepsy and trauma, and the function of the nervous system in regulating other systems such as muscular, cardiovascular, respiratory and gastrointestinal.
