Anesthesia for Special Populations

Pre -requisites: ENFE 7 251 –Advanced Principles of Anesthesia I The course leads nurse anesthesia students to develop critical thinking and evidence -based knowledge needed to provide safe nurse anesthesia care for special populations including pregnant women, neonates, pediatrics, elderly, and the obese population. Phy siologic and pathophysiologic differences that affect the anesthetic plan, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are discussed in relation to each population. In addition, the student is led to devise appropriate interventions for prevention and management of anesthesia complications. Simulated laboratory experiences, lectures, and problem based learning are used to enhance student learning. The course is face-to-face. ENFE 7300 - Advanced Principles of Anesthesia III. T wo (2) credits. Pre-requisites: ENFE 7252 -Advanced Principles of Anesthesia II This course provides nurse anesthesia students the opportunity to enhance concepts related to surgical procedures of the central nervous, neuroskeletal, endocrine and renal system.
