Catalog description
Pre-requisites: DESS 8201. The course provides knowledge and skills for public policy development and analysis on the social determinants of health from and equity perspective. Basic concepts in policy development and analysis; overview of theories and methods in public health polic y; process of public policy development and implementation; methods of impact assessments of policies; social determinants of health criteria for policy equity evaluation; and perspectives of policy analysis will be studied. Through lectures, small group discussions, and practical exercises students will learn to write and present a policy paper based on the social determinants of health with implications for public health in which the integration of concepts and methods will be evidenced. At the end of the course, students will be expected to analyze policy from equity and social justice perspective and produce a policy paper with implications for Public Health and social determinants of health.
