Pre-requisites: DEMO 6500, DEMO 6546, DEMO 6555, DEMO 6565. This course offers a general vision of the central problem and ideas of contemporary economics. It emphasizes the relationship between economics and the study of population at both, theoretical and empirical levels. In addition, this course presents the de mographic transition of P.R. within its economic development. In this way we can visualize with a real example the relationship between economic and demographic variables. The principal methods used in the analysis of the economic situation of a country are discussed. It is expected that at the end of th e course students will understand and could explain the demographic processes in its relation with economic development. To attain this, lectures, group discussions and exercises will be used.
