Regression and Correlation Analysis

Catalog description

Pre-requisites: BIOE 6535. This course aims to study the statistical association between variables with the purpose to evaluate the relationship between the expected value of a quantitative random variable and a group of predictor variables, using a linear equation. Through interact ive lectures and group discussions, students will discuss linear regression models and generalized linear models, emphasizing in criteria for their model selection and validation, estimation of parameters by the maximum likelihood method, evaluation of pot ential confusion variables and their interaction terms, and estimation of the magnitude of the association through the odds ratio and the relative risk. Practical exercises will be use to implement regression models on database using STATA, or other open s ource statistic software. Students are expected to select and apply appropriate regression models in public health issue analysis.
