Pre-requisites: AUDI 7116, AUDI 7119, AUDI 7126. This course is the first of a two -course sequence in hearing amplification. Its purpose is to introduce the student to the physiology of hearing loss and to the process of fitting hearing aids. Some topics include, the importance in the process of making earmold impressions, earmold and earshell acoustics, types of hearing aids, the components of hearing aids, electroacoustic measurement of hearing aid performance, assessing patient needs and determining hearing aid candidacy, using prescriptive fitting strategies, and basic hearing aid repair and troubleshooting. Lectures, group discussions, collaborative learning, case studies, and distance learning strategies are some of the instructional strategies that will be used in this course.
