Legal Aspects of Health Record Management

This course shows the health and clinical record as a legal document. By studying different legal concepts, the students will develop knowledge of the legal aspects that apply to health record management, with emphasis on the rules that govern it, the use of health record as evidence in legal processes, and the legal aspects of the dissemination of information to prevent unauthorized access. Are studied, in general, diverse legal materials and the way they are supposed to be applied by the health information administrator (HIM). The course provides knowledge concerning the most important laws and regulations directly related to the field of health information management, and about common legal issues that can be found in the handling of health information m anagement. Teaching strategies includes lectures, formative exercises in the classroom and discussion forums using blackboard platform.
