PSYCHOLOGY OF HUMAN DIVERSITY

Catalog description

Study and discussion of human diversity, including race, ethnicity, social class, gender, religious identity, sexual orientation, and physical, intellectual, and communication disabilities. Analysis of the effects of “being different” from a psycho-social perspective. Evaluation of strategies at the social, family, and educational levels to raise consciousness about prejudice and discrimination. The course will also discuss the historical processes that affect identity, as well as the formation of stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination at an individual and systemic level in the colonial context of Puerto Rico.
