Presentation of concepts of paleoceanography, including the paleoclimatic record in ocean sediments and measuring changes in sea level. Discussion of the objectives and limitations of research in marine oceanography. Study of the development of ocean basins based on the concept of plate tectonics; the rocks, minerals, and sediments that compose the ocean floor; and the environmental problems and management strategies associated with the marine setting.
