MA116ASYNC is designed to introduce learners to theory-based information regarding the essential clinical and administrative duties required of medical assistants. Learners will build core competencies in general physical examination support, patient preparation, facility operations, and culturally responsive care. Emphasis is placed on the effective use of medical terminology and patient education techniques to enhance communication and promote understanding throughout the patient experience. Learners will also explore rehabilitative care, including instruction on mobility aids, physical therapy coordination, and follow-up support. Additional topics include clinical laboratory procedures, CLIA regulations, specimen handling, documentation, and safety protocols. Key areas of focus include workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and first aid response. Throughout the course, students will practice documenting in electronic health records (EHR) and develop career readiness through professional communication, job search strategies, and ethical decision-making—preparing them to succeed as compassionate and capable medical assistants.
