Catalog description

MA115LAB is an entry-level medical assisting lab course designed to give students practical, hands-on experience with the administrative and business tasks of running a modern medical practice. Students will develop the following front office medical assistant skills: patient recordprocessing, medical record-keeping, appointment scheduling, health insurance processing, medical billing and coding, and telephone communication. In addition, students will practice fundamental bookkeeping and financial procedures, including claims processing, payments, and collections, to support the smooth financial operation of a medical office. Core MA skills that repeat in each course are administering intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SC), and intradermal (ID) injections, performing phlebotomy, conducting capillary punctures, and operating EKG procedures.
