Mental Health Caring Practical Nursing

Catalog description

This course introduces practical nursing students to the principles of mental health and psychiatric nursing across the lifespan. It explores common mental health disorders, therapeutic communication strategies, and the nurse’s role in promoting psychological well-being and recovery. Students will examine the impact of mental illness on individuals, families, and communities, and learn to apply the nursing process to assess and care for clients experiencing mental health challenges. Emphasis is placed on developing caring, empathetic, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental attitudes while practicing within ethical and legal boundaries. The concepts of Watson’s Caring Science and Human Caring Theory, and Quality and Safety in Education Nurses (QSEN) will be utilized throughout this course.
