Intro. to Surgical Technology

Catalog description
An introduction to basic surgical instrumentation along with specific nomenclature (names)and classification related to surgical procedures. Concepts of sterilization and disinfection and their effects on wound healing are included. The care, use and handling of instrumentation and suture material are provided through hands-on application. In addition to a thorough introduction on instrumentation, students will also receive a basic foundation in surgical technology, safety measures, and the surgical environment, and aseptic technique, legal, moral and ethical responsibilities. This course will also provide introduction to robotics, computer skills, electrosurgery and electricity. Prerequisities: Program admission; eligibility for EGL-1010, MAT-1120 and BIO-2050; BIO-2050 and HIM-1530 completed or concurrent.
