Catalog description

Clinical experience courses provide the opportunity for students to observe, practice and perform diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures, as well as participate in a quality assurance program. Clinical courses are directed, competency-based experiences in affiliate health care facilities; licensed and registered technologists (or pharmacists) provide guidance, mentorship and critiques. This course is the third of five clinical education courses. A greater emphasis is placed on interacting with various computer-based systems found in a nuclear medicine department. The student will utilize radiology and hospital information systems in managing patient and procedure information; generate quantitative and qualitative results from acquired data for routine imaging procedures (through the use of advanced processing software); and evaluate instrumentation quality control data against acceptable ranges. Additionally, the student will participate in cardiac stress testing and follow Department of Transportation guidelines in the management of radioactive shipments.
