Catalog description
This course introduces students to the basic elements of music and is intended for students who lack a strong background in the fundamentals of musical elements and notation. Students learn note identification, staff notation, basics of rhythm and meter, major and minor key signatures, scale construction, triads and seventh chords, basic keyboard skills, and basic harmonic function. Students learn to read and write Western music notation and develop aural skills such as ear traing and sight singing. MUS-1000 Students may not receive credit for both MUS-1000 and MUS-100.
