History 1430 is a survey of American History from Reconstruction through the 1970s. The course examines the nation's political development during that period. It also focuses on the social and economic impact on the nation of industrialization and urbanization. The course looks at the means by which various groups, who were excluded from the mainstream of American society, gained a foothold in the nation's decision-making process. It examines the major reform movements from the Progressive Era to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s . The course also traces America's growth from a continental and regional power to super power status after World War II. It examines the impact of imperialism and American involvement in both World Wars on American foreign policy, and the development of the Cold War. Prerequisite: Reading readiness.
