Catalog description
Examines the decision making process of those involved in the field of public safety, including law enforcement and corrections, as it relates to morals, values, integrity, discretion and authority. Queries ethics relating to the fair and equal treatment of those involved in the criminal justice process to include criminal justice personnel, victims, and criminals. Topics relating to the history, definition, categories, and theories of ethics; lying and deception as it relates to the field of criminal justice; prejudice and discrimination in the field of criminal justice; and abuse of authority specific to the field of criminal justice will be examined.

Note: This section is taught in a hybrid format. A hybrid format combines classroom interaction with significant use of online instruction. Because much but not all of the instruction is online, the amount of class meeting time less than the traditional face-to-face version of the course. Students may use computers in one of the PGCC labs or home computers with Internet access to complete course activities. Students must attend every scheduled class session.
