Catalog description

This capstone practicum provides senior-level nursing students with supervised clinical experience in their chosen specialty area (Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Emergency, Parent-Child, Pediatrics, Mental Health, or Community Health). Building upon previous coursework, students will integrate knowledge and skills to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care under the guidance of a qualified Registered Nurse preceptor. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice, critical thinking, clinical judgment, interprofessional collaboration, and ethical decision-making. Students will assume responsibility for a group of patients, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and leadership abilities while adhering to professional standards and legal/ethical guidelines. Simulated clinical experiences will complement real-world practice, enhance skills development, and provide opportunities for reflection and improvement. Ninety (90) clinical practice and simulation hours.
