Psychotherapy for Psychopathological Narcissism

Catalog description

Through this course, students will be guided to examine the relevant literature on the development of pathological narcissism through a psychodynamic, cognitive, social, cultural, attachment, genetic and neurological approach. Students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of pathological narcissism by delving into the current categorical and dimensional perspectives of pathological narcissism. This will help students determine the various presentations of the condition and their levels of severity, from healthy narcissism to malignant narcissism. Students will gain detailed knowledge of various evidence-based strategies to clinically assess these cases. They will also gain detailed knowledge through required readings, presentations, and discussion of clinical cases with audiovisual and written material. The foundations of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy adapted to cases with Pathological Narcissism (TFP-N) will also be discussed to provide the strategies, tactics, and techniques necessary for the management of these cases.
