Mood and Anxiety Disorders

Catalog description
This course focuses on a) the different types of mood/affective disorders including major depression and bipolar disorder; and b) fear and anxiety, in all its manifestations including panic, agoraphobia, specific and social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder. It also covers eating disorders. The course provides the student with an organized frame of reference necessary for differential diagnosis of these conditions and the theoretical background necessary to understand their etiology and clinical course. Implications for treatment will be explored. Emphasis will be placed on the major theories explaining depression and anxiety with adequate empirical support. Pre-requisite(s): PSY 5410
