Catalog description

This foundational course introduces students to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Topics include psychological research methods, biological bases of behavior, sensation and perception, learning, cognition, development, personality, mental health, and social behavior. Emphasis is placed on applying psychological concepts to everyday life and healthcare environments, enhancing self awareness, interpersonal effectiveness, and understanding of patients across the lifespan. The course encourages critical thinking, cultural sensitivity, and the integration of psychological principles into nursing and health science contexts. Forty-five (45) lecture hours.
