Introduction to Statistics

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts and methods of descriptive and inferential statistics, with an emphasis on applications in health sciences and nursing. Students learn how to collect, organize, interpret, and present data using statistical techniques. Key topics include measures of central tendency and variability, probability, sampling methods, normal distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression. Health-related case studies and data sets are used to apply statistical reasoning to evidence-based decision-making in clinical and public health contexts. The course also reinforces the interpretation of research findings and promotes critical evaluation of data in scholarly literature. Forty-five (45) lecture hours. Pre-requisite(s): MTH 1050
