Catalog description

This course provides an integrated exploration of microbiology, immunology, pathology, pharmacology, cell biology, genetics, and epidemiology, emphasizing the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying human disease. Students will develop foundational competencies in identifying infectious agents, interpreting immune responses, analyzing tissue pathology, and applying pharmacologic principles to therapeutic decision-making. The course also fosters clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills through PBL. Through case-based learning, TBL, and laboratory experiences, students will connect basic science knowledge to clinical applications, preparing them for advanced medical training and patient-centered care. This course provides foundational knowledge and practical skills in biostatistics, epidemiology, and evidence-based medicine to support informed clinical decision-making and research interpretation. Students will learn key statistical concepts, study designs, and analytic methods commonly used in medical research. Emphasis is placed on understanding measures of disease frequency and association, critical appraisal of clinical studies, and application of statistical reasoning to interpret findings in the medical literature.
