Catalog description

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of medical history taking, patient interviewing, and essential communication and clinical skills for effective patient assessment. Students will examine key health determinants-such as socioeconomic, cultural, behavioral, and age-related factors-that influence dental care. Through simulated activities, students will develop skills in medical history review, interpersonal communication, dental examination, and clinical reasoning. The course also offers foundational training in impression-making techniques. Students will learn the indications, advantages, and limitations of materials and equipment for alginate impressions and digital intraoral scanning. They will practice obtaining and pouring accurate preliminary alginate impressions and performing complete digital intraoral scans following recommended scanning protocols.
