Catalog description

This course provides a foundational understanding of microbiological principles relevant to human health and disease. Topics include microbial structure, physiology, genetics, classification, pathogenesis, and the human immune response. Emphasis is placed on the role of microorganisms in infectious diseases, antimicrobial therapies, infection control practices, and emerging public health threats. Students will explore the impact of microbes on the human body, healthcare environments, and global health. The course integrates core concepts with applications in nursing practice, preparing students to apply microbiological knowledge in patient care, disease prevention, and clinical decision-making. Thirty (30) hours lecture. Pre-requisite(s): BIO 1010, BIO 1020, BIO 1021L Corequisite(s): BIO 2032
