Catalog description
The seminar experience for the Bachelor of Social Work Program is designed to provide educational direction and support for the field placement. The seminar will assist students in the successful preparation for the field experience. Discussion and activity is focused around the integration, mastery, and application of practice theory in conjunction with completing field-related paperwork, a criminal background check, securing liability insurance, arranging and participating in interviews, and designing specific learning experiences that build skills for working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Students' participate in weekly activities that include but are not limited to discussion forums, presentations, and paperwork completion. Additionally, students explore topics such as dealing with conflict in the field and navigating a successful internship. Prerequisites: All other courses in the Social Work Major with the exception of SOWK 498A-B Social Work Internship.
