School Based Speech Therapy

Catalog description

This 3-credit course provides an integrated overview of the foundational knowledge and clinical competencies required in speech-language pathology. Emphasis is placed on the biological, neurological, linguistic, cultural, and developmental bases of communication and swallowing, as well as the characteristics and etiologies of speech, language, and hearing disorders. Students engage in evidence-based approaches to prevention, assessment, and intervention, with application through guided clinical practicum experiences, structured observations, and case-based learning. Topics include speech sound disorders, language development, cognitive and social communication, hearing, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Professional standards, ethics, interprofessional collaboration, and data-driven decision-making in educational and clinical settings are also addressed. Prerequisite: Bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology or a related field
