Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the major categories of psychopathology as presented in the most recent edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). Mental disorders will be conceptualized from different clinical and socio-cultural perspectives, including the role of genetic, chemical, and environmental influences. Ethical and legal considerations will be addressed. Students will consider various definitions of normality/abnormality, the symptoms of commonly occurring issues related to behavioral health, and the process of rendering a diagnosis for mental disorders.
