Catalog description

This course establishes a context for the importance of a healthy lifestyle through human movement, healthy nutrition, and an understanding of youth mental health, growth, and development. Students will explore state and national standards for health and physical education (PE) and framework-based teaching strategies to help K-8 learners develop motor skills, recognize the components of a healthy lifestyle, understand the risks associated with drugs and alcohol, and develop self-confidence and self-worth. The course also examines approaches for integrating health and PE with other content, strategies for helping learners achieve the goals of lifelong health, and ways to use and evaluate health-related information, products, and services.
