This course examines the scientific principles and applied practices that define the value of conservation biology. Students explore how ecological, genetic, and human factors influence biodiversity and assess how scientific research, policy, and ethics shape conservation decisions. Emphasis is placed on evaluating the evolution and significance of conservation as a scientific discipline and social priority. Through analysis of case studies and applied projects, students integrate biological, ecological, and sociopolitical perspectives to develop evidence-based strategies for sustaining species and ecosystems.
