Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of diagnostics in the veterinary medical field. The course will begin with differentiating signs of health and disease in relation to clinical examination techniques, utilizing applied medical terminology in the context of medical record writing. Students will study reading, writing, and understanding medical terminology including prefixes, root words, and suffixes. Appropriate antemortem and postmortem sample collection and handling and biosecurity will be emphasized. Diagnostics will focus on imaging techniques, body fluid analysis, various disease diagnostic techniques, cytology, molecular diagnostics, and gross and histopathology. Clinical case presentations will allow students to apply their knowledge and interpret lab results in a clinical setting and feel comfortable in reading, writing, and conversing with medical professionals.
