Catalog description

This course is a supervised off-campus internship involving individual training, practical field experiences, and written and oral critique of the activities performed. While completing their internship, students will submit an internship plan, portfolio, evaluations, and/or regular reports with some flexibility in submission documents as determined by the faculty member in charge of the course. Students will be graded based on these reports and employer evaluations. This course supports the Capital College Internship Program, which serves several objectives relevant to the region and our students, including: attracting and retaining capable students to pursue their educational and career goals in mathematics, engineering, engineering technology, and the sciences; connecting students with professionals who practice engineering, mathematics, technical, and science skills daily; establishing mentoring programs to break down the barriers between student learners and practicing professionals; creating service learning and internship experiences designed to reinforce classroom learning in technical and theoretical subjects; retaining students in the College and in the region by developing a seamless transition from the academy to the workplace. Another aspect of the internship program is to assist students in finding career-related, temporary employment opportunities, and to provide support and training for such positions while pursuing their education at Penn State Harrisburg.
