Catalog description

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy (CRP) in Special Education is designed to help students recognize and appreciate diversity in the classroom specifically related to students with exceptionalities. This course will develop ways to encourage student engagement by creating supportive and inclusive classrooms where all students feel they belong. The student learning outcomes are engaging and include elements of active learning. Broadly, the overarching elements of the course will focus on (1) enhanced cognitive development and understanding of concepts and vocabulary related to CRP, (2) develop social and cultural connections with students and families, and (3) support student engagement and retention using cultural reciprocity and understanding.
