Catalog description

Snowsports Education III is designed to guide students towards becoming a leader in the snowsports industry at an advanced level. The course introduces students to materials and experiences which help to prepare them to undertake the Level III certification in any discipline of the Professional Ski Instructors of America & American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI). The course is composed of three segments: 1) Enhancing teaching and learning at the advanced levels in snowsports, 2) PSIA-AASI Level III certification process, and 3) Planning for continued professional development. The major topics of the first segment focus on demonstrating excellence in teaching in snowsports education and facilitating a learning experience for skiers and snowboarders through the advanced level. The second segment entails preparation for the PSIA-AASI Level III certification assessment and completion of the assessment. The final section of the course helps students interpret and reflect on their assessment feedback/forward and prepare next steps as leaders in snowsports and the broader industry. Students can expect to engage in learning via reading, watching webinars, listening to podcasts, and reflecting upon their own experiences. Course activities include preparing written summaries and analyses of course topics, self-assessments and reflections of student's own instructing and professional experiences and completing the PSIA-AASI Level III certification assessment. Students will need to join PSIA-AASI and pay for their level III assessment in addition to tuition fees. Membership with PSIA-AASI includes digital access to required course materials.
