Catalog description

Individuals face a variety of personal risks, including catastrophic property losses to their homes and personal property; extra expenses resulting from unexpected death, morbidity, disability, and accidents; and retirement risks that prevent them from having sufficient wealth to live comfortably after they have finished their working careers. This class examines the range of methods available to manage these personal risks, including risk mitigation, insurance, pre-funding, and risk diversification. It also examines the role of governmental programs that offer protection from these risks.
