Analyzes the history of terrorism and explores the preparation and response to specific terrorist threats, natural disasters, and conventional catastrophes. HLS 410 Public Health Preparedness for Disaster and Terrorist Emergencies (3) This course introduces students to the preparation and response to necessary to deal with specific terrorist threats, such as chemical, biological, and radiologic agents, as well as conventional civilian attacks. Students will analyze the history of terrorism from a public health perspective, and examine recent domestic and international terrorist incidents. The coordination and planning of specific natural disasters will also be explored. Students will have the opportunity to examine the consequences of conventional civilian disasters, including crisis management of conflict-related disasters and transportation and industrial related catastrophes. The current state and inherent challenges of drug, vaccine, and laboratory response to disasters will be reviewed. Students will also be introduced to models used to predict mass casualties.
