Scoring for Film and Media

Catalog description

MUSIC 401 is an in-depth study of the many technical and creative procedures involved when scoring for film or other media. Students focus on analysis, technology, composition, and collaboration. In addition to studying existing film scores, MUSIC 401 covers the various steps in scoring for screen, from deciding on general musical syntax, spotting, timing, to scoring and mixing. This course uses Apple's Logic Pro for demonstration, but students may choose to work in the DAW of their choice, e.g. Pro Tools or Reaper. Studio B contains professional sampling libraries from Native Instruments and Spitfire, as well as a variety of effects available for postproduction. Each student will have a weekly two-hour lab time to use the equipment for assignments and projects. All students are expected to follow the guidelines outlined in the handbook
