First-Year Seminar in Music

Catalog description

MUSIC 040 First-Year Seminar in Music (1) (BME, BM, BMA, BA). This course is offered to all music majors during their first semester. The goals of this seminar are 1) to engage students in learning and orient them to the scholarly and performing community from the outset of their undergraduate studies in a way that will bridge to later experiences in their chosen music degree programs, 2) to explore a broad and diverse array of musical styles, genres, and music making, and 3) to facilitate students' adjustment to the expectations, demanding workload, increased liberties, and other aspects of the transition to college life.
