This course explores the ecological and aesthetic issues of landscape design intended to restore degraded environments. We will discuss the science and design principles needed to restore ecological processes and biological communities on disturbed, degraded, or altered landscapes, and learn to apply landscape design techniques to those sites. Topics covered include restoring endangered species, native prairie, rare plants, riparian areas, streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands, watersheds, woodlands, and wildlife habitat.
